About

Who? Friends call me Rana and I’m an Aussie girl with a passion for healthy living. Over time, I have become more and more interested in health and this blog started as an outlet  to share my experiences, recipes and interesting bits and pieces. Through my own health journey I have found myself drawn to research about healing foods and how what we eat influences how we psychically feel, look, think and move.

Given those interests, it is probably no surprise that I have a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (with a major in Psychology and Health Science) and have since gone on to study at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to be a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach enabling me to coach and support others as they achieve their health and wellbeing goals.

As you may notice most of my posts are about about food, fitness/play and other.

Food – The way I eat is very much in line with the Paleo/primal diet and SCD/GAPS diet although if we’re going to label it then I prefer ‘Real Food’ :-). If you are not familiar with these ‘diets’, they for the most part avoid processed foods, refined sugar, grains, conventional dairy products, legumes and vegetable oils. The diets promote consumption of grass fed meats, poultry and wild seafood, fruit, vegetables, eggs and nuts (preferably soaked). And for increased health benefits homemade stocks/bone broths and fermented foods.

Why do I eat this way? My whole life, I’ve been intolerant to Casein (in dairy) and towards the end of high school I started to make the connection between other foods I was eating and my inability to concentrate, skin sensitivities, fatigue, bloating, gut aches etc. Eventually after too many gut aches, doctors’ appointments, Dr. Google self-diagnoses and taking medication that only made things worse, I started to look past main stream nutrition and do my own research. I cut out Gluten, immediately felt better and have been making continual improvements to my diet ever since. I just love how this way of eating makes me feel :-). So long nasty symptoms, hello energy.

Play – Fitness doesn’t have to be a chore. I try to exercise everyday but it’s really important to me that I listen to my body. I’m usually at the gym about 4 days a week lifting weights and doing some cardio or group classes. If I don’t have the energy, I simply walk the dog or do some yoga and meditation.  I love incorporate exercise with social activities especially outdoors whether that be hiking with friends, riding my bike, wakeboarding at the river on a warm day or beach cricket with the fam.

Other – I truly believe that diet and exercise are not the only factors that contribute to living a healthy life. Other things that feed us are our relationships, stress management, our career and spiritual practice.

“We hunger for play, fun, touch, romance, intimacy, love, achievement, success, art, music, self-expression, leadership, excitement, adventure, and spirituality. All these elements are essential forms or nourishment.” Joshua Rosenthal.

Thanks – Just wanted to give a quick shout out to my amazingly supportive friends and family who have contributed greatly towards my emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Love you all.

Health and happiness
